The lenticular lens

Most applications need wide horizontal viewing angles and relatively narrow vertical viewing angles. So screen gain – and thereby image brightness – can be enhanced by directing the projected light in these specific directions. This is exactly what the lenticular lens does.

The lens elements are semi-cylindrical, vertical features on the front of the screen. By optimizing the design of the lenticular lens elements, a very wide horizontal viewing angle can be obtained in combination with a high screen gain.

These lens arrays are an achievement of micro engineering. On the dnp NWA screen there are four lenses per millimetre (also described as a pitch of 0.25mm). This means images of the highest resolutions can be displayed on even the smallest screen sizes.
